Women’s bikers groups have been gaining popularity worldwide, and India is no exception. These groups are not just about riding bikes; they’re about empowerment, sisterhood, and breaking stereotypes.
History and Growth
The first women’s bikers group in India, “The Bikerni,” was formed in 2011 by Urvashi Patole. Since then, several other groups have emerged, including “Women Riders of India,” “Lady Riders of India,” and “The Lady Bikers.” These groups have chapters in various cities across India, with thousands of members.
Objectives and Activities
Women’s bikers groups in India aim to:
1. Promote biking as a hobby among women
2. Encourage women to take up biking as a professional.
Rekha who is multi talented and a “Passionate Biker ” with her serving as a homemaker and mother of two teenagers , will head the women’s biker’s group and will change many women’s dreams to realities to be the “MOM” as “WOW” Women on Wheels. She is NCC ‘C’ certificate holder and was part of NCC contingent at the Republic Day parade, New Delhi in 2001. She has done para jumping as part of her NCC activity and was awarded best cadet award. She is a taekwondo red belt holder and bronze medalist at national taekwondo championship during her schooling.
She loves cooking and travelling. Her recent 2 adventure travels are Spiti 2023 and adventure tour of Zanskar and Ladakh including the highest motorable road Umling La (19,300ft) in 2024 along with her family in a 2×4 SUV. She’s a MA in English from Agra University.
We are a community of women bikers who share a passion for riding and adventure. Our group is dedicated to promoting biking as a hobby among women, and providing a supportive and encouraging environment for women to pursue their passion for biking.
We organize regular rides for our members, ranging from short city rides to longer highway rides. Our rides are designed to be fun and social, and provide a great opportunity for women to connect and share experiences.
